Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO YOUR TUTORING SERVICES DIFFER FROM OTHERS?

Our tutoring services are one-to-one in-home. We work with you and the tutor to create an educational plan that can be individualized, in order to give your child the specialized support that he or she needs. We do the placement based on skills, personality, geographic area, and availability. Parents are emailed session notes, so they are kept in the loop at all times. We also check in periodically to ensure everything is going well.

Who are your tutors?

Most of our tutors are teachers within local school systems. We also have tutors who are professionals and are qualified as content specialists. Others work with students with various learning challenges. After the one-to-one interview, we contact references and conduct a background check. Tutors working in certain areas must take content tests in order to demonstrate their knowledge. Our tutors have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.

How do you find the right tutor?

We assess the needs and goals for your child along with personal factors. This information helps in finding the best tutor. We hand select the best tutor based upon the student’s needs and personality style. We are caring professionals and we ensure that your child receives the support he or she needs. Parents receive a tutor profile for review and approval. This includes the tutor’s experience, education, background, and personality attributes.

WHEN SHOULD THE TUTORING TAKE PLACE?

Most students meet with their tutors once or twice per week. Tutors can meet on weekday afternoons, weeknights, or weekends. Tutoring is one-to-one and held in the student’s home. Tutors can also hold Lessonspace virtual sessions with students. For those that want to meet in-person, but do not want to take advantage of in-home sessions, our tutors can meet students at our offices, local libraries, or coffee shops.

Do your tutors have experience with learning challenges?

Most of our tutors are qualified and have experience in working with various learning challenges. Tutors are provided with techniques on how to work with learning differences. Utilizing various tools and strategies, our tutors enable your child to fully reach his or her potential.

Do your tutors REach out to teachers?

Tutors must receive parent approval and written consent prior to any teacher contact. It can be highly useful for tutors, parents, and teachers to share information with each other.

What if it is not a good “fit?”

We will respond quickly to any concern you may have. We will speak to the tutor, and, if necessary, locate another tutor as soon as possible. This is extremely rare as we hand pick the best tutor for your child. Parents receive a tutor profile before accepting the tutor.
